The Friends of Trees annual neighborhood planting will take place Saturday, March 26, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 5431 NE 20th Ave. Our planting partner will again be the awesome Vernon neighborhood. FOT account sign-up is now closed, but if you already have an account, you have until March 13 to place your order at Friends of Trees. We are on track to plant approximately 200 trees this year!
It takes many hands to get all these trees in the ground, so if you want a great volunteer experience, by all means join us. We are always in need of pickup trucks and drivers. Other things to help with: registering other volunteers, preparing and serving breakfast and lunch, serving on a planting crew, and cleaning up after the event. This year we will again feature a soup-making contest to feed our tired and hungry volunteers when they get back from their plantings. Everyone casts a vote for their favorite soup, stew, or chili, and the crock-pot with the most points wins! Call Dove at (503) 284-7622 or e-mail Concordia@plantitportland.org to learn more.
Many thanks to Friends of Trees for all their hard work and assistance, especially our specially assigned neighborhood specialist Erica Timm. Your neighborhood coordinators this year are Erica Strauss and Brittin Witzenberg from Vernon; and Jordan McCann, Rebecca Wetherby, and myself from Concordia. Special thanks also to NW Natural for their continued support.
